Football Shin Guard
Size Guide

Use actual product dimensions first when choosing football or soccer shin guards. SAIWEI SPORTS’ carbon fiber and PP plastic options share size names, but measurements differ. Compare physical dimensions, coverage, and a guard you know fits well.

ImportantProduct dimensions are not age recommendations. There is currently no validated Saiwei age-to-size or height-to-size conversion. Size names describe guard dimensions, not the wearer's age. Any size can be ordered by any player — choose by shin length and the coverage you want.

Quick answer

There is no single shin guard size that fits every player of the same age or height. Start with the actual product dimensions. If you already own a guard that fits well, measure it and compare those dimensions with the SAIWEI SPORTS chart. Carbon fiber and PP plastic use different measurements, so check the material-specific table before ordering.

Shin Guard Size Chart

Carbon fiber covers 9 size names across two lines — 7 Classic and 2 Ultra — while PP plastic covers 8. The physical dimensions are not identical between materials, so use the table for the material you actually plan to order.

Same name ≠ same dimensions. For example, carbon JUNIOR is 8 × 12 cm while PP plastic JUNIOR is 8 × 11.5 cm. Carbon fiber itself covers two separate lines: Classic (SUPER MINI to L) and Ultra (Ultra S and Ultra L). Ultra is the wider mold, not a longer one — Ultra S is actually shorter than Classic S — so the two are charted separately and their size names are not interchangeable. All values are first-party measurements taken from production samples and are listed width × height. Carbon and PP thickness are both measured on the finished guard with the bonded EVA foam layer in place, so the two tables are on the same basis. Measurements are first-party readings taken from production samples. Published figures are nominal: actual weight may differ from the value shown by up to ±5 g per guard and each dimension by up to ±3 mm through production tolerance, and further with batch and storage time.

How to Measure for Shin Guards

The most reliable way to use the chart is to compare physical dimensions instead of relying on a generic age label.

02
Measuring the height and width of a shin guard with a ruler

If you already have shin guards that fit

Use the existing guard as a concrete physical reference. Shape and curvature can still differ, but this is more useful than assigning a size from age alone.

01
Place one guard flatUse a stable surface so the physical dimensions are easy to compare.
02
Measure top to bottomRecord the main product length shown by the guard.
03
Measure the widest pointUse the largest side-to-side measurement as the second reference.
04
Compare with the material chartCheck Carbon or PP separately because the same size name can have different dimensions.
05
Choose the coverage you preferDecide whether you want similar, less, or more physical coverage than your current guard.
03 / Decision guide

What Size Shin Guards Do I Need?

Choose a size that gives an appropriate amount of physical coverage and can remain properly positioned during play. Smaller is not automatically better, and larger is not automatically better.

Current IFAB Law 4 states that shinguards must be made of a suitable material, be of an appropriate size to provide reasonable protection, and be covered by the socks. Players are responsible for size and suitability.
Compare actual dimensionsUse the published measurements, not only S / M / L labels.
Think about coverageChoose the amount of shin area you want physically covered.
Check sock compatibilityThe guard needs to be worn under the sock as required by the rules.

Kids, Youth & Fit

Age can be a useful shopping context, but it is not a validated Saiwei size conversion. Use real dimensions, existing equipment and competition requirements.

Kids / Youth

Do not assign size from age alone.

Two players of the same age can differ in leg size, playing preference and preferred coverage. SAIWEI SPORTS has not supplied a validated “age 8 = size X” or height-to-size chart.

  1. Check whether the player already has a guard that fits well.
  2. Measure that guard if possible.
  3. Compare with the relevant material chart.
  4. Remember that a physically smaller guard covers less surface area.
  5. Check league, school or club requirements before ordering.

Practical fit

How should shin guards fit?

A shin guard should be appropriate for the player and remain properly positioned beneath the socks.

  • It sits over the shin rather than drifting far to one side.
  • It can stay in position under the sock and compatible retention method.
  • It does not interfere unnecessarily with normal movement.
  • The player is comfortable with the physical coverage.
  • The choice meets competition rules.

Each cell is width × height, weight per single guard and thickness. Carbon and PP thickness are both measured on the finished guard with the bonded EVA foam layer in place, so the two columns are on the same basis. Carbon fiber is not offered in XL — 9 carbon fiber dimensions (7 Classic plus 2 Ultra, which are charted separately above) against 8 PP sizes. The carbon column below lists the Classic line only, because Ultra does not share its size run. Curvature, depth and how each shape sits on different leg profiles are still unpublished and are added only as first-party measured product data. Measurements are first-party readings taken from production samples. Published figures are nominal: actual weight may differ from the value shown by up to ±5 g per guard and each dimension by up to ±3 mm through production tolerance, and further with batch and storage time.
06 / Mini vs standard

Smaller size means less physical coverage.

SUPER MINI, MINI XS and MINI S are physically smaller than JUNIOR, S, M, L and XL. This guide can explain the physical dimensions, but it should not claim that a mini guard provides the same protection as a larger guard unless a specific test supports that statement.

If you are considering a mini format because you have seen professional players wearing small shin guards, use the dedicated decision guide rather than popularity as the sizing method.

07 / Quick questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Short answers for the questions that usually come up before choosing a size.

What size shin guards do I need?

Start with the actual product dimensions. If you already have a shin guard that fits well, measure its physical dimensions and compare them with the SAIWEI SPORTS carbon or PP plastic chart. Do not rely only on age or the size name because the two materials use different dimensions.

What size shin guards do kids need?

There is no verified SAIWEI SPORTS age-to-size conversion at this time. For a child or youth player, compare the actual product dimensions with a guard that already fits if possible, consider the amount of shin coverage, and check any league or school equipment rules before ordering.

How should shin guards fit?

They should be an appropriate size for the player, remain properly positioned, and be covered by the socks. Current IFAB Law 4 makes players responsible for the size and suitability of their shinguards.

Does carbon fiber use the same size chart as plastic?

No. Most size names are shared, but the product dimensions differ and the size runs do not match either — the carbon fiber Classic line stops at L and its separate Ultra line carries only Ultra S and Ultra L, while PP plastic runs through XL. For example, carbon JUNIOR is 8 × 12 cm, while PP plastic JUNIOR is 8 × 11.5 cm. Always check the table for the material you plan to order.

What if I choose the wrong size?

Custom-product return or remake eligibility depends on the current SAIWEI SPORTS returns policy and the status of the personalized order. Check the size before production and review the current policy before ordering. Do not assume that a personalized product can be exchanged like an unused standard-stock item.
